Music Business Diploma


Program Overview

The Music Business Program (MBP) is an intensive course of study that prepares students for careers in the music business and entertainment industry. This course will help artists, producers, and performers understand how business partners with creativity. Classes explore the way projects are pitched, sold, copyrighted, produced, marketed, and delivered.

Students will receive training in promotion, marketing, management, graphic and web design, video and audio production, and publishing. It will prepare students for a diverse variety of career possibilities, from working with established record, publishing, and production companies to branching out and creating their own production and record companies.

Over the course of three semesters, this program covers:

Semester 1: Introduction to Copyright and Music Publishing, Industry Perspectives, and Audio in Media

Semester 2: The Record Business, Entertainment Media Distribution, and Video Production

Semester 3: Business and Legal Foundations, Contemporary Entertainment Marketing, and Multimedia and Web Development

Class Schedule

The SAE Institute San Jose campus is currently available to students and staff Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 11:00PM and 10:00AM to 6:00PM on Saturdays. The campus is closed on Sundays. During these opening times, access to the lecture theatre, all studios, labs, motion capture, green screen, audio and video suites, library and classrooms is subject to the booking process of the SAE Institute San Jose Master Scheduler. Access to offices, copy room, and all building maintenance and storage rooms is not available to students.

Most classes occur between the hours of 8:00AM - 11:00PM. However, labs may periodically be scheduled outside of these hours. Distance education courses are asynchronous. The labs and facilities are open for student use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
