Music Expo Miami 2019 is a SMASH

In association with Sound On Sound, Music Expo, the dedicated conference for music creators, held its third event at SAE Institute Miami to great acclaim on Saturday March 30th. In addition to the support from producers, engineers and the music technology industry which has been a feature of all Music Expo events until now, including sponsorship, seminar program and showcase participation from recording technology manufacturers such as Yamaha and Steinberg, this was the first Expo to receive support from the recording industry directly. The seminar programme reflected this, with valued masterclasses not only from Steinberg, Leapwing Audio and iZotope, but also discussion panels on industry matters including copyright, licensing revenue and legal experts from Interscope Records, Pandora, SoundExchange and Sony Music Latin amongst others.

The expansion added a broader dimension to well-attended events like the discussion session on the recent success of Urbano music (a hot topic in Florida…!), which, as well as GRAMMY® winning producer/engineer Paul Echo Irizarry and producers Guillermo Lefeld and James Joubran of Hit Central Records, also featured music-business lawyers like Angie Martinez and A&R Txema Rosique from Warner Chappell (see picture above). In addition there were the usual excellent tech masterclasses from the likes of the events keynote speaker Gary Noble (Nas, Amy Winehouse) The Pushers (Kendrick Lamar, John Legend) and SAE Institute Career Services Advisor, Frank Socorro (Mary J Blige, Cee-Lo) and the open Ask Me Anything sessions where general questions are welcomed from attendees (see below). This was also the first event at which Music Expo were officially partnering with SoundGirls, the US-based organization dedicated to supporting and connecting women working in pro audio and music production.

Music Expo will return on September 21 for a one-day conference at SAE Institute Nashville and November 9-10 for a two-day event at SAE Expression College. Tickets are on sale now at the Music Expo website, with a 20 percent discount for SOS readers using the promo code SOSMX2019 at purchase.
