Bill Smith - Arranging and composing strings and orchestral parts

Bill will demonstrate how he writes string and orchestral parts. He will then show how he is able to record them with his vast sample library when he does not have the access or budget for live musicians.

I grew up in Westlake Village, CA before earning my degree in Music Composition from the University of North Texas, Denton. I attended on a drumline scholarship & was very lucky to be part of that tradition. As a native of Virginia, I treasure that my conducting debut was with the National Symphony (at Wolf Trap) - granted I was 6 years old and it was the 4th of July’s Star-Spangled Banner, but I was very well received. As a percussionist, a legit highlight performance was debuting a Henry Brant spacial symphonic work commissioned for the Dallas Symphony. When in Dallas I composed music for media & live settings for mega-church clients over 17 years. Some personal writing highlights include a hymn setting performed by the FWSO and Master Chorale commissioned for the SWBTS, a pop tune for Samsung’s S4 Radio City Music Hall phone release, as well as transcribing and re-orchestrating Rhapsody Rabbit for Bugs Bunny On Broadway/Bugs Bunny at the Symphony - from the original Warner Bro’s cartoon. I also enjoy arranging & orchestration collaborations with a myriad of artists ranging from other composers to solo artists and or bands. Three highlights are my Arrangement/Orchestrations on Sister Hazel’s Santa’s Playlist, big-band pop singles for vocalist Lauren Sutton and pops orchestrations for Sara Lov. For the past five years, I’m primarily scoring videos for the NHL, AHL, and MLS - along with scoring content for institutions and corporate clients. That written I’ve been focusing on writing & conducting for myself conducting sessions at Warner Bro’s Eastwood Scoring Stage, Evergreen Stage - Burbank, plus Live to Picture events as well as orchestras in the U.S., Czech Republic & (until the current situation canceled this summer’s live events) concerts in Okinawa & Vienna.
