Music Expo Announces Keynote Speaker Clarence Jey

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Oct. 23rd, 2019) - Music Expo San Francisco presented in association with Sound On Sound, announces Emeryville Mayor Ally Medina and Keynote Speaker Clarence Jey for the newly expanded, two-day conference taking place in the Bay Area on Nov. 9th and Nov. 10th. Emeryville Mayor Ally Medina will kick off the full two days of programming with a welcome address. Clarence Jey, known for music on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, music in film and multiple Emmy-nominated TV shows, and one of the largest viral music successes in history with YouTube record-breaking song “Friday,” will deliver the opening keynote with a discussion about the artistic, economic, and practical value of music and what we create. In addition, he will lead a workshop about the songwriting process in Cubase 10.

Music Expo San Francisco will be hosted by SAE Expression College (6601 Shellmound St, Emeryville, CA 94608) and will take place on Sat., Nov. 9th (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.) and Sun., Nov. 10th (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.). This year, Music Expo will also partner with Headroom SF to provide an opportunity for producers to submit tracks and win up to $5,000 worth of prizes and giveaways. To participate, just submit a track by Nov. 3 at http://www.headroomsf.com/ORIGINAL productions and remixes only. One submission per producer. Every producer receives a FREE pass to Music Expo for both days. Winners will be announced onsite at Music Expo San Francisco at the end of day two and will be notified.

Music Expo San Francisco’s programming will include a combination of presentations, live demos, panels and educational workshops with tracks covering business, technology and creative. For 2019, a full track of sessions and panels will also be devoted to discussing analog recording curated by Piper Payne. Topics will include how analog recording should work, how to mix in analog and mastering and analog formats. More details regarding the analog track to be announced. In addition to previously announced program highlights, newly added include; 
  • Songwriting Process in Cubase 10 with Clarence Jey - US Billboard and Grammy credited Songwriter, Record Producer and Multi-Instrumentalist, Clarence Jey, will discuss his songwriting in the latest version of Steinberg Cubase 10. Clarence will share his workflow for arrangement and production, including maximizing efficiency for projects along with his specific use of tools such as Groove Agent, VariAudio and Audio Alignment.
     
  • LIVE Drum Production Session: Unconventional Drum Layering On Electronic Beats - GRAMMY®-Winning Producer Nahuel Bronzini and Producer and Session Drummer McKay Garner break down a song from Mani Draper's latest album to add new layers of acoustic drums to it, replacing, morphing, adding, layering.. etc. Whether you do everything in the box or already record live drums, we're sure you'll learn some new tricks to add organic sound to your electronic production.
     
  • Sound Like The Records You Love - Producer/Artist Jay-J will discuss workflows, technologies and concepts that will help you create finished pieces of music worthy of your worst critic, yourself. He will walk through how to utilize reference tracks earlier in the process to help establish and hit a frequency target thus achieving results you can be proud of with less revisions.
     
  • Women in Music presents: Gender, Diversity & Inclusion - Meet the Change-Makers & Join the Movement - We believe that the conversation around equality is an inclusive discussion where all voices are welcome. Led by some of the top women in music, this conversation will discuss how to make an impact as a women in music, how to climb the ladder and how to find allies.
     
  • Vocal Production and Mixing Workshop - Learn from songwriter, producer, engineer and Abbey Road Institute lecturer, Emiliano Caballero, on how you can record and use vocals creatively into your own productions. This workshop will  cover some creative techniques, such as reversing and pitch shifting to create pads and effects. Even use vocals recorded with an iPhone and turn them into radio-ready productions.
     
  • Track Mastering Live - Mastering Engineer Michael Romanowski (Third Eye Blind, Pentatonix, G-Love) will put the finishing touches on one of last year’s winning remixes from the Viceroy 1999 Remix Competition. This is an opportunity to see a track being mastered live.
