3 Reasons why Chicago is a great place to study audio and entertainment business

Making a decision on where to pursue your education can be a daunting task. With so many factors to take into consideration, one might find themselves wondering where to begin. As we continue our series highlighting some of the cities where our campuses are located, we’ll be shedding some light on why a particular location may be an ideal choice for you.

Next up, we’re putting the spotlight on “The Windy City”, better known as Chicago. Follow along as we point out a few reasons why this city could take your audio dreams to the next level.

ITS MUSIC HISTORY RUNS DEEP

Chicago’s musical roots go back to the beginning of the 20th century, with the Great Migration, creating a significant impact on music in the area. It’s widely known as the birthplace of many influential genres of music such as house, modern gospel, and Chicago-style blues. Notable blues artists such as Muddy Waters, Junior Wells and jazz greats like Nat King Cole and Gene Ammons all gained popularity in Chicago.

Chicago is also home to many legendary music venues, like the Aragon ballroom which was built in 1926, and The Warehouse which was where House music (specifically Chicago house) got its name. When it comes to a city that is deeply rooted in historical and legendary music greats, Chicago is the city for you.

IT’S A HAVEN FOR ENTERTAINERS, CREATIVES & CULTURE SEEKERS

If being surrounded by art, music, and culture is something that interests you, you’re in luck. Chicago has a thriving art scene boasting galleries, museums, art districts and even street corners ready to be explored.

For history buffs and seekers of all things culture, Chicago is also home to a whopping 67 museums. The Art Institute of Chicago, The Chicago History Museum, and The Museum of Contemporary Art are just a few of the diverse array of museums this city has to offer. With so much culture and creativity bustling throughout the city, you’re bound to be inspired as a student.

Chicago is also home to one of the most influential and prolific comedy theatres in the world—The Second City. Comedy greats like Tina Fey, Dan Akroid, Chris Farley, Stephen Colbert, Tim Meadows, Rachel Dratch and Sam Richardson all got their start here. All this entertainment magic is happening just a mile away from the SAE Institute Chicago campus.

“Chicago is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and it offers something for everyone—art museums such as the Art Institute, famous music venues like the Green Mill where Al Capone was known to listen to jazz, amazing restaurants that are showcased every summer in the Taste of Chicago festival, world-class architecture creating an astonishing skyline, which rises above the clear, sparkling blue Lake Michigan, and there are harbors with sailboats and yachts, sandy beaches, riverboat tours, lush green spaces and parks—and this is only the beginning!” says SAE Institute Chicago’s Director of Education, Ruth Clayman. “But even with all that, it is the people here that make the city so special. One tourist put it this way: ‘Mix New York hustle with Midwestern warmth, kindness, and generosity and you get Chicagoans. They are tough and strong and always in motion, but they don’t forget to say hello to their neighbor or smile at a stranger. The people make the city, and the city makes the people.’”
