From the classroom to the busy sets of major TV productions, Jon Ramos’ journey from the Entertainment Business program at SAE Institute Nashville to becoming a TV producer at a major production company is a testament to hard work, passion, and a solid foundation in industry knowledge.
Follow along as we learn more about Jon’s background, what he does, and the advice he has for current students looking to pursue a career in Entertainment Business.
Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in Entertainment Business?
When I was 13 years old I joined a program in New Bedford, Massachusetts called Dream Out Loud. The program taught me music business fundamentals and gave me my first paid job at 14 doing radio commercials for local businesses. I knew since 13 I wanted to be an Entertainment Business person.
What are you currently doing for work?
I am currently a TV Producer / Business Development Rep at Brand Star Studios in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The company produces shows that air on Fox Business and Lifetime TV.
What do you hope to accomplish next in your career?
In the future, I have plans to start my own Latin Entertainment Company in the city of Miami. The company will offer label services, artist management, and concert production.
What was your experience like at SAE Institute Nashville?
At SAE Nashville I was able to get a better understanding of how the music business works. One of my professors, Jimmy Metts really taught me a lot about the value of owning publishing, and master recordings, and the way to leverage these to generate revenue in the industry. Because of my attendance at SAE Nashville I met Jariel Lopez, the first Latino Studio owner on music row. I developed a good friendship with Jariel Lopez who also graduated from SAE before me. He connected me with opportunities to meet major label A&Rs, and many people in the industry. I would have never met him if I did not attend SAE Nashville.
What advice do you have for others who are thinking about pursuing a career in Entertainment Business?
My advice for others who want to pursue a career in the entertainment business is to be prepared to hear the word No a lot. You will get rejected for many opportunities just because you are new to the industry. Don’t let that stop your motivation, your grind, or your effort. Eventually, you will get your shot. Always believe in what you see for yourself. Everybody won’t see what’s in your heart and Mind. Work hard, and don’t take rejection personally– what’s for you will get to you as long as you keep working.
