We compiled 7 careers in the entertainment business to give you an idea of what might be a great fit for you, your skills and your personality.
Promoter
A performer “puts on the show” for an audience. A promoter is responsible for getting that audience together. A promoter’s main responsibility is to publicize and create interest in events and performances, reaching from music to theater to sports. Promoters are savvy marketers, creative communicators, and great networkers. A promoter usually uses a combination of media, ranging from guerrilla marketing to social media, from newspapers to TV and digital media, to spread the word. Promoters also build their own brand to get known in the industry and get a solid reputation. Some promoters, like Sharon Osborne or Don King, even build a brand out of their own and become celebrities themselves.

Artist Manager
An artist manager guides every aspect of their client’s career, controls their business affairs and usually becomes the artist’s 24/7 ally. Responsibilities range from career-changing decision making, where to get a take out for the crew, planning long-term goals and taking initiative to help with the artist’s mental and physical wellbeing. Some of an artist manager’s duties include negotiating contracts, promoting the artist’s career, handling bookings and deals, overseeing schedules and activities, representing the client’s interests, and of course, maximizing the artist’s profits.

Events Manager
Also known as event planners, event managers plan and organize promotional, business, and social events. They are responsible for finding and booking venues, liaising with suppliers, managing budgets, managing risk, and generally making sure everything runs smoothly and the audience is engaged. This is a very hands-on job and requires exceptional attention to detail, advanced negotiation skills, problem-solving experience, and marketing and business expertise.

Personal Assistant
If you’ve seen the movie The Devil Wears Prada you know that a Personal Assistant (PA) is the ultimate gatekeeper to the stars. They handle everything that pops up in their client’s life and duties can change on a daily basis. PAs do a variety of tasks. They take calls, handle correspondence, which gives them access to important and confident communications, coordinate diaries, organize presentations, look after expenses and often double as internal event managers.

You could be a great PA if you enjoy being involved in a wide range of administrative tasks, are a precise communicator, are meticulous about time management, and enjoy working closely with one person or a small group.
A&R Assistant
An A&R (Artist and Repertoire) Assistant is an exciting entry-level position in the music industry and is usually responsible for administrative tasks. They often attend gigs to help scout new talent, develop and maintain relationships directly with artists, review demo submissions, coordinate A&R reports, and act as a liaison between the A&R rep and the record label.

Public Relations Consultant
A PR Consultant helps to establish a company’s or person’s public image. They are responsible to project a desirable image to the public, media, employees, and customers. PR Consultants have excellent communication skills as they are in charge of external communications like press releases, media communications, responding to requests for information, and often coach their clients in the correct way of communicating with the public. Working in PR means that you have a deep understanding of consumer marketing and have some event planning experience as you will be in charge of executing press conferences.

An Entertainment Entrepreneur starts, runs, and oversees companies in the entertainment industry. Responsibilities include researching markets, finding funds for different projects, developing marketing plans, and always being one step ahead of the competition. Great communication skills, strong business skills, and the ability to multitask are a given in this demanding role.
