Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in creative media?

I’ve always had a deep passion for creativity, whether it’s singing, drawing, painting, or supporting artists, particularly musicians. In college, I initially studied education but quickly realized my true calling was in storytelling, so I switched to a double major in communications and creative writing. This passion led me to social media marketing, where I discovered a medium to tell stories every day. I began by managing the social media presence of artists and eventually founded a digital marketing agency that specializes in working with creatives.”

You’ve worked with artists and performers in the past, how is the entertainment industry different from other industries?

The entertainment industry is unlike any other because it’s all about creativity, emotion, and staying in tune with the latest trends. Working with artists and performers, you see firsthand how personal and professional lives often blend together, making authenticity so important. It’s fast-paced and constantly changing, which means you have to be quick on your feet and open to new ideas. While other industries might rely more on data and predictability, the entertainment world is all about understanding culture and connecting with people on a deeper level. It’s challenging, but that’s what makes it so exciting and rewarding.

What has your experience been like teaching at SAE Institute Chicago?

I’ve been teaching at SAE Institute Chicago for six years, and it’s been such an inspiring and rewarding experience. I love supporting creatives, and the energy here is incredible. As soon as you walk in, you can feel the passion and dedication these students have. It’s pretty amazing to be a part of their journey and see their talents grow. It’s a privilege to be able to share in their excitement and help them along the way.

Why do you think it’s important to have formal education in the arts and media industry?

I think formal education in the arts and media industry is really important because it gives you a strong foundation to build on. It’s not just about learning techniques or theories; it’s also about understanding the history and context behind what you’re creating. Plus, it exposes you to different perspectives and helps you develop critical thinking skills. In an industry that’s constantly evolving, having a well-rounded education can help you adapt and innovate. It also connects you with a community of peers and mentors who can support and inspire you. Ultimately, formal education can give you the tools and confidence to pursue your passions and make a meaningful impact.
